Call for evidence

From Wednesday 12 November 2025, the Group welcomes written submissions on some or all of the following points relating to artificial intelligence and children’s online safety.

The questions relate to the following themes:

  • Emerging risks posed by AI to children online;
  • The role of AI in moderation and automated decision-making;
  • Young people’s experiences and perceptions of AI; and
  • The adequacy of current and proposed AI regulation.

Each section allows for a maximum of 3000 characters. Submissions will inform the Group's recommendations, and some contributors will be invited to expand on their evidence in oral evidence sessions, commencing in January 2026.

If you experience any problems with the form, then please email your evidence to appg@iwf.org.uk. Please note the secretariat will not accept submissions that exceed the character count. The Group welcomes written submissions by 11:59pm on 7 January 2025.

The current and emerging risks AI poses to children online: How is AI perpetuating existing online harms? What new harms have we seen emerge as a result of AI (e.g. chatbots and AI companions)? What research has been conducted into the impact of AI on children’s wellbeing and development?

AI-Models, Moderation, and Automated Decision: What is the role of AI in content moderation, its limitations, and how do automated systems impact children’s exposure to harm? How can we use AI to address online harms to children?

Young people and their experiences of AI: What research has been conducted into children’s perception and use of AI? What key harms have been identified by children relating to AI? What educational support is available to children concerning AI?

AI Regulation: How is AI addressed in the Online Safety Act? Is further regulation needed to address any existing loopholes in legislation, such as in the forthcoming AI Bill? What would be the appropriate vehicle to address these legislative loopholes?
